Jane's Notes: The interplay between the Gouldian Finches and the Sulphur-crested Cockatoo is one of my favorite moments on the mural. The cockatoo, accustomed to being the center of attention, glances over its shoulder to find a glorious trio of interlopers, also sizing up their showy competition. I love drawing and painting parrots. They’re so animated, they have so much personality, whenever I have to create a parrot, I take it as a joyous challenge to capture their essence. In this drawing I gave particular attention to its eponymous crest and its feet, with the two-and-two toe structure that is a defining characteristic of the family.
