Jane's Notes: The Wall of Birds' 2,500-square-foot canvas was plenty big enough to accommodate the birds at life size, and I worked to compose them in natural positions. Incorporating the birds into their environment, however, was not feasible. Instead, I used the birds’ behavior and negative space to create imagined habitats, like with Mozambique's Red-faced Mousebird, which hangs off the thin branch of an acacia tree, baking its belly in the sun to aid the bacteria in its gut digesting a leafy meal.
