Jane's Note: The black birds were a treat because they allowed—required—me to explore feather structure and detail. This study helped me prepare mentally in finding form and volume, which became a fun challenge to translate into the painting. With some birds, I feel like the studies are actually stronger than the paintings: graphite allowed me to capture nuance with particular speed and detail. Oversized and/or unique features like the drongo’s eponymous tail are always a treat to render.
Each study comes with a certificate of authenticity. Please allow six weeks for custom matting and delivery. All sales final.
