Jane's Notes: A Western Barn Owl perches on an old rafter in an abandoned church somewhere near the Texas/Mexico border when the faint scurry of a field mouse catches its attention. The owl's satellite-dish-shaped face helps it pick up the faintest of sounds, a hunting adaptation just as important as its beak and talons. I’ve always loved Barn Owls for their soft, silvery-rust coloring and marvelous physiology, which is why I think I found the shape of this bird so naturally.
